I was lucky to spend a morning with 4 month old Baby J recently at the studio. I love babies at this age. By now, they have developed their own little personality. They can lay on their belly and hold their head up, play with their little toes, yet still too young to crawl or run away from the camera

Last fall, we shot Ashley and Matt’s first engagment session. They opted for a personalized guest book with photos of them throughout instead of the traditional lined paged book. To add a little more diversity to their book, we planned on shooting again once the snow started falling. Over the winter, we attempted many times, but between all of our schedules it just didn’t work out! Last week, just when we thought the snow was gone for good…. another snow storm hit Nova Scotia. Unfortunately, but conveniently, Matt woke up with no voice (if you know Matt, you know this is tragic!! He is Mr. Personality!) We headed out for a quick session close to their home, and I’m so glad were able to make it happen!

Back in 2010 I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing the Farthing family of Middle Sackville – Heather, Norm, and their two beautiful children, Ethan, aged 5 and Lauren, aged 2. After their fist session, it felt as though they were friends I had known for years.

At the end of 2010, I found out Heather had been diagnosed with cancer. This young mother exuded an appreciation for life that is borne of someone who truly recognizes that each and every day with our loved ones is a blessing. We met again this past fall for a family session. Heather, at the age of 32, had been battling, and it was believed at the time, overcome cancer.

Sadly, the Farthing family recently learned that Heather’s cancer has returned. She has been diagnosed with having a high-grade form of a rare and aggressive cancer known as sarcoma, and has now learned that the cancer has spread. The family presently awaits further testing to determine next steps. Understandably, this is an agonizing time for the Farthing family, as they struggle to maintain hope while learning more about the seriousness of this most recent diagnosis.

Confronted with this news, Heather is focusing on what truly matters to her. True to the love and devotion Heather has for her family, her thoughts at this time are focused on cherishing this, their precious time together.

She has expressed several wishes, each of which embody a desire to create and record loving memories to last them a lifetime. Firstly, she wants to document this invaluable time with her family, capturing these precious moments with her beautiful young children and beloved husband on film. I have been entrusted with this task, and will have the privilege of spending an entire day with Heather and her lovely family, photographing all those simple, everyday moments.

Her remaining wish is for her family to visit Disneyworld, to bring her children to that truly magical place where dreams really do come true! This, of course, is a costly venture and therein a much more challenging wish to grant.

I have been profoundly touched by Heather and her story, and as such, am honoured to donate my time a to help her get one step closer to realizing this dream.

I am happy to advise that I am currently accepting bookings for 30 minute in-studio mini-sessions, Saturday, February 11 through Saturday, February 18th, with some scheduling flexibility for anyone who is interested but unable to make it during this timeline. These sessions, normally available at a rate of $150, are being offered for $75 with all money to be forwarded to Heather and her family. Sessions include a disc with their 5 favorite photos taken during their mini-session, and more importantly, the gratification of helping this family realize their Disneyworld dream.

Senior Portraits

A few months ago, a photographer friend of mine (Jimmy) and I decided to collaborate and start offering “Senior Portaits”. No, not photos of Nanny and Grampy….althought that could be another project

We are focusing on Senior Grads, otherwise known as grade 12 high school students. We are going to photograph them throughout their last year of high school. These collections will be compiled of 4 or more different sessions.

The four sessions we are aiming for are:

1) A fun session (as you’ll see below with Gabrielle)

2) Grad photos in gown. Both traditional and non-traditional.

3) Capturing them playing sports, in theater, with their instrument….whatever their hobby is as a teenager. This could be numerous sessions, depending on the number of sports/clubs/hobbies they are involved in.

4) And finally, in prom attire -dress or tux.

Senior grad sessions are extremely popular throughout the USA. Canada is catching on to this growing trend. Its such a great keepsake for high school students to look back on. We just started Gabrielle’s collection in November. I will post an update of her sessions throughout the year.

Christmas Mini Sessions!

Blogging….I have good intentions…I don’t know why I find it so darn difficult to update this more often! So here we go, time to catch up a little! I’m going to post some photos from over the past few months…notice how green the grass is in some of these photos….it has really been that long! Some of these go back as far as the beginning of September :s I still have lots to share, including a few weddings. I’ll get to those eventually

I met Sarah last year when she came into the studio to book her wedding. I knew as soon as she walked in the door that we would click. She is so kind, happy and positive. Its impossible not to adore her! And Marc…he’s just as kind. They are a perfect pair.

Sarah and Marc were married last weekend. Before going to the wedding, Sarah took a few minutes to stop by her grand parent’s nursing home. It was probably one of the sweetest moments of any wedding I have been to…it was impossible to hold back the tears. The church was beautifully lit and the weather was perfect….I guess it was the calm before the storm.
